Daraba

Daraba is a traditional, ancient, and well-known sweet from Burhanpur. It is a type of halwa and is prepared in two ways—one using semolina (suji), ghee, and sugar, and the other using water chestnut flour (singhade ka atta) instead of semolina. This sweet also holds spiritual significance in Burhanpur, as it is offered as prasad (a religious offering) to Shri Balaji. During the grand annual Shri Balaji Mela held on the western bank of the Tapti River, this sweet is distributed among devotees as prasad. This fair is also popularly known as the Daraba Mela.
